3mm is plate steel. I'm sure it will work out, since 90% of the structure of the car is made from >18g steel. LOL.

In all seriousness, yes, it will work. If you check the mounts, the plates they're made from, they're 3mm average. (3mm is 1/8")

What about the punk welder that someone posted on here awhile back? Cheap DIY thing, maybe that would be OK to use?

I guess it's kind of a non-issue for now, since you're going to first be interested in measuring and mocking up, right? For that, you need scissors, tape, rulers, etc... no welder required.
