it's all in the key switch it cuts the radio, head lights and anything else that is not needed to give more power to the starter, it might also be hard on the radio to have the voltage drop so your radio might not last as long, a capacitor in there with a diode would take care of all of this and still let your radio turn off when you take the key out, otherwise a push button starter button would bypass the key switch that turns the radio off.
