Okay, time for some comically bad illustrations of mounts. See the writing for more description.

Driver's side: Basically over here I'm to use both of the stock insight mounts, but build a protruding quadrilateralish shape to go out and meet the mount, since otherwise it wouldn't be floating around in the air by about an inch on the bottom and a lot on top. Planning to use 1/8" for the sides and 1/4" for the mounting surface. Also, I was thinking it would make sense to attach to nuts to the mount? Once it's mounted can I just put it all together and then tack the nuts to the back of the mount, or will that tack the bolts in too?



Rear mount: The stock mount is four bolts on the back of the transmission that mounts up under the steering rack on the insight. Since I can't do that, I'm planning on bringing the plate up and over, then putting some little arms on it to attach to the crx stock mount, which will of course be relocated from the other side of the steering rack and probably welded right to the stupid crossmember. For this should I weld up all the seems or should I just weld where the bolts would attach? Either way I'll probably just tack it on and then jack the car up to get the engine out of the way for further welding, since it's annoying to get to.



Thoughts? I suppose I could tap some holes for the rear mount but I'm not sure if I can just go tapping holes into the rear crossmember willy nilly
