That's the point... it's not that Civics are stolen because they're Civics - it's just that they're easy targets. (Not always the case, obviously.)
I'd bet that the average person who owns a Civic has some "performance"(robbing) parts on it. Thieves are banking on that theory, for the most part. The OEM parts have a decent value too, but aftermarket is the motive.
Maybe the Metro was a bad comparo, but it illustrated the point I was trying to make about those studies, that they don't take all the factors into account.
