Interesting. Reminds me of the way to kill a frog by boiling it - put it in cold water and increase gradually and he doesn't notice enough to jump out!
It follows the same basic trend every year. Prices climb during the summer months (demand increases while school is out and people travel more) and then fall back down in the fall/winter months only to start the cycle again the next year at a little higher starting point.

The recession has disrupted this a little, but it will continue to climb over time. We'll see $6/gallon, the only question is when.
