Tadpole, you're looking for.
That would be why you're specifically looking for a FWD drivetrain, since you want the steering capability. Of course, you can build your own project with the front suspension of said VW, and a motorcycle rear end. Make sure it's a shaft drive bike, and you can swap a small diesel and a RWD transmission into there, like the one from the Mercedes 240D, which is approximately 2/3 the length of most transmissions, with no tail shaft. If you were going with a bike transmission, you could use a belt driven bike as well.
