I was told it was okay by a mechanic, but other than that, I don't have any concrete data.

Having poked around a lot on the 'intraweb' after posting my comment above, I realize that the O2 sensor is probably bad. There seems to be a lot of people who discovered replacing their "good" O2 sensor helped things out.
