Speedometer in rear window

I was wondering what would happen to our streets if we had large accurate speedometers in our back windows.

Imagine knowing from a good distance exactly how fast the people in front of you are driving. You would be able to plot your course carefully/strategically (smart drivers would more save fuel). Also, potential speeders would think twice knowing their speed is being advertised to everyone (thereby increasing safety + increasing reliable flow of traffic).

It could be made voluntary and the increased safety could be rewarded with lower insurance rates. What company wouldn't want to pay lower insurance rates?

What do you think? Would large accurate speedometers in back windows help save fuel?
