Depends how large. If someone rear-ended you trying to see what it read; that is not saving much

Thinking of the slight transmission drag and extra weight of the cable + gage; it would not seem to be all that much benefit. Not a very common addition so by the time other drivers speed up to figure out what the speedo was doing there, then backing off to 'normal' distance; any fuel savings would be gone.
