Must be a matter of perception, then, because what you consider observed fact, to me, is nothing more than conjecture. I've been on the same highway, at the same times, doing the same speeds, and never found that I was in any sort of danger, at least moreso than what I would normally be in from inattentive drivers who feel that I95 is the speed limit rather than the highway's numerical nomenclature.
