Carbureted cars are much overrated. They run filthy rich when cold, in the hands of the average user. Their idle circuits frequently gum up, needle valves stick, floats leak, and you had to rebuild them regularly.
I'll take a fuel injected car any day over a car with (ugh) carbs, let alone a car with dual carbs, or (shudder) triple carbs.
Any perceived advantage of carbureted cars excelling in fuel economy is likely due to the fact that a 1970 Datsun 1200 weighed about 1600 lbs v. a 2009 Sentra weighing about 2800 lbs, and being larger than the 1970 Datsun 510. It's not due to carburetors being more efficient than fuel injection.
