I find just slowing, gradually, you know - ease off the pedal, out of gear coasting kind of works nicely, plus it winds them up even more. See how long it takes for them to get the message to back off.

I had one guy (the only one behind me) down to 15 mph before he worked it out. My dad (police) taught me this one, his reasoning was that he would prefer to have them pass and to be able to see the moron and react to their moron-ness rather than trust to luck.

I was with him once when younger (about 10) when a biker tailgated him and then blasted past in a 30 zone with the Vs. So my dad just followed him to the pub he was going to. We parked and my dad got out of his 998cc 40 hp Mini (in tasteful 70s lime green) and walked over.

The biker was laughing with his mates pointing at this guy he had just "blown off". Then my dad got out his warrant (police ID in the UK) card. The colour went from proud red to "arse evacuation pale" in under a second and his friends kind of wandered away during the "interview".

He also said about undertaking (on the left here in the UK where we drive on the "correct" side ) that if there is room for you to pass safely then there was room for them to move over.

Funny thing was, he never did the "traffic" cop thing, was a village bobby.
