i'm assuming it also has to do with variations in filling the tank...i'm a first click guy, i figured that tank fill variations will average out as long as i'm consistent

That makes sense because you are operating outside of the design parameters.
On my Scangauge 1 in my S-Series, EOC still showns an RPM of 61 when the RPM is 0. The SG ends up calculating MPG as 10*MPH. Don't know why, but there it is.
