Years ago kit cars were big for VW parts. Maybe somebody could engineer and market a kit for Metro parts. I'm guessing that with the rust problems in the bodies, there may be more engines than cars, and you could put together something that you could drop the engine and drivetrain into.
Maybe something like the Tryane II which used the front drive of a 2CV, or an EV1 clone.
