...but it also reminded me of something I read many, many, many years ago about "how gas tanks" were "sized" -- basically (as I recall) it started with an assumed driving time of 8 hours at an "average" speed of 50 mph, which produced a "range" of 400 miles per tank.
...thus, tanks were "sized" for the middle-sized engine to meet that goal of 400 mile range. Of course, with a smaller, thriftier engine, the range was better; but, likewise, when a bigger, thirstier engine was installed the range was usually far less.
