In industry, there are very tightly controlled proceedures to be followed, such as the applicable section of ISO-9000 #1 Volume production on a surface mount production line using specifically designed equipment #2 The process is monitored by Production Engineers. #3 New parts are used with no oxidation of the solder surfaces. #4 The Quality Control Dept. checks the PCB's The result is that all the electronics in the world are made with lead-free solder-except our military. But, I wouldn't be surprised that when the risks are reduced to lead solder levels, that will change! Hopefully soon.
