He isn't counting how much acetone he put in, just how much gas. If I put in 5 gallons of acetone, and 5 gallons of gas my fuel mileage would report being able to drive like I had driven on about 7.5 gallons of gas but only counting 5 gallons.

Also judging on what I saw of his guage, 2-3 gallons were used, (way past full, down to full) which tells me he either cut off the fuel, or filled up just before filming the fill up during a break in his filming.
