My life made no sense until I found out that like many nerds, I have Asperger's syndrome. I was over 40 before it was even officially recognized as a condition. One of the major discussion groups on it is called "Wrong Planet" because we feel out of place here, being wired to put a different emphasis on everything around us.
It is a "spectrum disorder" - I use the analogy of having a loose screw upstairs. There's a set of about 20 screws in one area of the brain, and if most of them are loose, you get autism, and very little communication. If only half are loose, the brain can work around that and pass for normal, some days, but according to which half are loose, the eccentricities are very different. However, it seems that most inventors are folks who concentrate on technical stuff because socializing is too confusing.
