There's a fine screen bag in the tank attached to the pump like all cars have. It shouldn't be clogged unless you've been dumping really dirty fuel into the tank. But there's also a real fuel filter next to the tank, on the driver's side. Round black cylinder with two fuel hoses clamped to it. Wouldn't hurt to change it.
I think some of the later Metros had just an in-tank filter instead of the screen bag, but your '92 has an external filter.
