Accessing front turn signals on Scion xA?

Hello,

I am trying to change out the front turn signal bulbs on my Scion xA -- they are tucked up into a tight niche, that has several sharp metal edges. The socket needs to be turned and pulled out, and I cannot get to it well enough with my fingers. There are two large Phillips screws visible that are holding the whole headlight unit in place -- but I removed the screws and the headlight unit still doesn't move.

Any ideas of how I can replace the turn signal bulbs?
