On the issue of LRR vs grip for safety, in my experience, it is better to have less grip but a gentle break-away. That way, I'm confident enough to use it all up in an emergency. In real life, people often panic and don't even brake before an accident, let alone steer creatively and skillfully. One has to be in practise to approach the limit of any tire, and one that gives safe practise at lower speeds provides many more opportutities to stay fresh. One thing I really like about economy cars is that you can drive them flat-out for much longer bursts than you can get away with in a supercar. There's some challenge to the driver in normal traffic - the machine does not guarantee a "win."
