Hello from San Diego

Hello everyone, my name is Robert from San Diego.

I found this sight by searching for a way of building a DIY tonneau cover. I'll be making one from foam and fiberglass. Being in California, it's really hard to find the 4x8 sheets of foam. I'll be buying smaller sheets and combining them.

The tonneau will be flat, but will raise stright up to make a camper. The sides will be tent fabric that will unfold as the tonneau goes up. I'm getting started as soon as I can spare $100 in a few weeks.

I own a 1997 Dodge Dakota single cab, longbed.

Mods so far...

shaved passenger side door handle
shaved emblems
shaved drip rails
shaved tailgate handle
rear roll pan
smoother front bumper
K&N airfilter and intake
lowered 3" front 5" rear

Future mods

City driving flat tonneau
Cross country aero shell
Cross country aero hood (clear hood/windsheild unit - pending DOT)
Fiberglass belly pan

My background is mold making and resin casting for models, so it'll be fun to see how different it'll be for real cars.

Glad to be here, have a good one.
