When you give a co worker a ride home from work, and they ask "Why does your car look like the terminator?" And you're response is "It's a science experiment." because you don't feel like explaining and want to get home.
Then the next day you have to tell all your co-workers about hypermiling, because word travels fast. Some even seem genuinely interested, even though you don't really consider yourself a hyper miler driving a 2 ton AWD station wagon.
OR
You're heart broken when someone tells you their sisters prius only gets 40 MPG. You wonder how they are driving it to get it down that low.
