I had a Kia Rio rental in Georgia a few years ago. It hauled three adults and luggage around Atlanta and Augusta in relative comfort. Kia's really made some positive strides lately.
I really like the look of the new Kia Forte Koup -- it looks like it's a car that should cost more than it apparently does. (The exterior, anyway.)
My last rental car was a Chevy Tahoe. (They were supposed to give us an Altima-sized car, but it was all they had available when we showed up.) Very comfortable ride, but in a few tight corners it felt like it was going to tip over, and I think we averaged 17 mpg in mostly highway driving. And some elderly passengers found it very annoying to have to climb up into the seats. The thing dwarfed everything else on the road save semis -- which is saying a lot, because this was in Texas....
