I think the controller can help speed up the shifting though, by monitoring vehicle speed and motor rpm, and given the vehicles gear ratios, it can quickly set the motor to the next or previous gears synch rpm with the press of an upshift or downshift button, perhaps with a couple LEDs to indicate what gear it is speed synching to (or a fancy array of gate switches that tells it what gear you want).
