Even though my hood/windshield angle is similar to the middle of those 3 drawings, two things told me that my wipers were in the windstream. They would occasionally snare a large insect, such as a dragonfly, and when I drove in thick fog, moisture would deposit on my lower windshield in a pattern copying the metal structural elements of my wiper blade holders (i.e. the areas downstream of the metal wiper support elements had no moisture deposits, whereas the areas downstream of the open gaps between these elements were heavily coated).
