What is your normal commute like? Unless its truly bad traffic all the time you should be able to eek out 30 mpg with conservative driving. The first thing to look at is brake usage. Any time you use the brakes, think of how you could avoid it in the future. If you have a manual transmission, try to accelerate around 80% load (LOD on the scangauge) and keep the rpms low (I stay under 2k most of the time, but a little higher won't hurt that much). Other than that, stick to the speed limit and if you see a red light put it in neutral as soon as you can. Honestly, just doing those things should get you very close if not over 30 mpg (unless you're in bad traffic real often).
