For a single gauge maybe a mounting on the a-pillar would be best, also keeps it out of the way and usually means not having to drill holes - you can replace the original trim piece back if you move to a new car.

If you want to do it cheap I did see someone had mounted gauges into old tin cans which happened to be the right diameter, and if painted mat black or dark grey looked quite good.

Otherwise there a quite a few 'universal' mounts which could be used or adapted to fit.

Looking at the pic though, could you move the radio to the top or bottom of that section then mount any gauges into a panel there ?
