Hello, I'm bob and I'm a freak.

Howdy to all. I'm Bob. I live in central Indiana and I have always looked for ways to get the most out of my cars.

Quick "car history":

First car was a 1980 Buick Park Ave diesel. bought it when I turned 15. Injector pump died the week before I got my liscense but in the 6 months I had it running driving it was averaging 28mpg.

Second car was a 1984 Tempo 5-spd. Huge pile of poo. Couldn't gtell you what it got for mileage, but at 16-18 years of age, I don't think mpg's were high on my list of concerns!

3rd car was a 1989 Caprice 9C1 retired cop car. It was an 18mpg beast. Always. Literally tried two weeks back to back, one week running it as hard and fast as I could, the other week never exceeding 55, easy starts, no a/c... the works. It actually got 18.2 on the hard week. 18.1 on the easy week....

Bought my parents GMC fullsize truck after leaving college. it was 5 years old at the time, 4.3L V6/5-spd with a 3.08 rear end. Not exactly a barn burner but after the intake/exhaust/chip swap(eproms) it would knock down 24mpg at 70mph all day long. Best single tank with it was a 25.7mpg at Thankksgiving 1999. I got stupid and traded it in for....

My 2000 Sonoma. 2.2L 5-spd reg cab sportside bed. 23mpg. It was much like the Caprice. It was never any better, it was never any worse. IT was just bad.

Soon met my wife, trraded it in for a more family oriented vehicle my 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS 5-spd. Started tinkering with it the day we bought it seemed. CAI,multiple exhausts, multiple suspensions, tones of wheels/tires. It was averaging me 35mpg before the E10 infiltrated every gas station in sight. Now I'm averaging 33 daily driving. It's best trip was in 2007 when she AVERAGED 36.2mpg roundtrip to the Outer Banks from Indianapolis. Multiple tanks of 37 and 38mpg.

Wife let me buy a "toy", and we purchased my old 89 Chevy truck. 4.3/5-spd, regular cab short bed and another 3.08 rear end. It got the intake, exhuast and a rebuilt suspension. It averaged 22mpg roundtrip in 2005 to dallas and back. multiple tanks over 24mpg.

And our current long distance hauler, 2006 GMC Sierra Crew Cab 2wd. It's a 4.8L V8, 3.23 rearend with no frills. I installed the K&N FIPK, and a Magnaflow catback. It's best single tank was 24.3mpg. It's WORST tank, towing the race car on an open trailer was 17.9mpg. It averages 19-20 piddle fartin around town and the last trip out west a couple weeks back it averaged 21.0mpg round trip. A custom PCM tune is coming next spring to hopefully get that average higher.

This is me... just ask. I got lots of stories/ideas/opinions!
