My father was friends with a guy in upper MIchigan that owned two identical cars, when he was going on a trip he would drive one car and pull the other behind it (1970's) he claimed he got better mileage this way than if he had his wife drive the other one with the motor running. (they had a large family that didn't fit in one car)

I always thought that sounded stupid, but I guess possibly in his case at least accurate.
