Which is not a bad thing...

I'd love to drive a Euro turbodiesel into an American service garage and see the looks on the crew's faces. "Um, sir, I think I've found your problem: There is no ignition signal."
But seriously, importing something from the VW group wouldn't be too bad, since North America has a few TDi's, but Ford? Or GM/Opel/Vauxhall? While you're importing there should be a second engine in the trunk for spare parts. Service stations may not even have the diagnostic software to service an engine that's not sold in the US, let alone the parts. Time and $$$.
Hopefully this will change.
