Distance from the tire is ~1"-1.5" (25cm-35cm). I don't want to go too tight. The wheel sticks out past the fender wells at the bottom as it is, and the tire has a good amount of sidewall flex. The wheel also angles inwards as the suspension compress, so the bottom of the wheel will kick outwards. I figured between the rate that the sidewall flexes, suspension geometry change, the absolute max the wheel moves out cannot be more than 3/4"-1". So there is a good margin of error. Plus come winter I don't want the skirt to pack with snow. The AWD throws slush into the wheel wells like pig in mud. I usually wipe the wells clean during such occasions. So I would like to go wider, but I don't want to get too wide. The 1.5" should be enough to get my hand up in there to clean out any slush/ice buildup.

The final product is going to have one more little surprise. But I'll save that for fiberglass photos. :-)
