I know it depends on the vehicle and the oil you use but my car's recommended interval is 7500. I change it every 5000-6000 just to be safe but thats still twice as far, aka half as expensive as a 3000 interval. Also I've only ever run Mobil 1 Synthetic in it since it was broken in. That may or may not help.
