i actually beat the factory MPG numbers in my last tank on my ninja 250. they claimed 61 MPG, i got about 67.5 MPG. so yes, it is possible to beat the factory numbers. also, i wasnt even trying to get great MPG numbers, i was just driving normal. i dont really hot rod anymore anyway.
