Department of the blindingly obvious

For the last year on my commuting Yamaha XT125X I had been measuring my mileage each week and seeking to adjust driving style etc. to reach 100MPG (imperial) and was generally disappointed with the results.

At the time to renew the brake pads I dived in with confidence and found that 3 of the total of 4 pistons were more or less seized in place.

I suspect that I had not noticed it because I am a delicate braker generally - altho the bike had just passed its annual MOT test.

Having freed off the pistons and basically serviced the calipers the ride was transformed and normal mileage rose from 71 to 86 mpg (imperial) with a new best of 91.

So, friends don't do an Andrew and assume that basics are OK - make sure they are!

My defence is that I am an old motorcyclist without much disc experience - my Ducati has Grimeca 1ls drums and they DONT DRAG.

hope this helps someone
andrew

Ps this Yamaha is a Malaguti-built 125 enduro style machine, so at least I have stayed italian!
