Driving a car would make glare worse than being in a truck or van. If the seating position is elevated another foot or two the HID lights are actually less glaring than regular. I sold my last car a couple of years ago and recall noting that oncoming headlights were much worse.

I don't own a vehicle that has them but if one came with them I would certainly use them in a safe manner.
