personally i would use my car as a base or an earlier ke10 corolla (these were pretty much teardropped designed)
a few aerodynamic mods, possible fuel injection upgrade, or at least a better carb, alluminium chassis instead of steel, lower it but not to much, few mods to the engine and she'd be right... easy 60mpg
these things way next to nothing and boy do the accelerate quickly with a few mods, they have a high frontal area, but nothing some custom panel beating cant fix
