A 30 kWh LiFePO4 pack in that car would give it a 'real world' 250+ mile range. A 60 kWh pack(which could easily be fit without the car getting overloaded), a 500 mile range...
The Sunrise would have been a $20,000 car in mass production in 1996, with NiMH batteries, was NHTSA approved, and the major automakers wouldn't touch it.
