Actually, it does (did) have a renault(?) 2.1 TDI optional at the factory, which was wildly unpopular, for the same reason most 1980's diesels were so unpopular. I believe it had a standard option and, of course, 4x4 as an option.
Yes, I used some square tubing from something (???) I rescued from a dumpster. I just welded onto the bumper. The bumper is not very thick steel (10 GA, maybe) and thus not very strong. I only welded onto the bumper because I wanted it so that if I hit something, I wouldn't bend my frame (more than it is bent now). And because I'm lazy.
