Try a Saturn Vue. My wifes '05 cost us 5K 2 years ago.
It seats 4-5 adults and carries a bunch in the rear.
She drives it so it only does mid 20s MPG wise.
A Kamm and wheel covers would be a huge help, but she wont let me touch it.
So far i have only had it stuck once, red clay back road and it was raining. It greased up bad. What made me feel better was my buddy had to winch himself IN to get me out !
