OK, I'm giving up on the heating element
inside the oil pan idea, but maybe a heating pad that sticks to the underside of the oil pan? Between 100-150 watts should be just right. I looked around and the only company that seems to make automotive pads for 240 volts is Canadian
Titan Heaters. They're not exactly cheap, and if I factor in shipping across the pond, then I might as well get another coolant heater here locally. The only heating pads available in my neck of the woods are either side mirror defrosters (12V, 5-13W), or electric floor panels (100-200W per sq. meter).
Why can't I find what I'm looking for closer to home? And does it have to be expensive?
EDIT:
Is anyone else interested in a heating pad?
