...I know about belts, one of our two FMC-manufactured Field Dynamometers at the U.S. Army Proving Ground, Yuma, AZ, used "belt" coupling between it's TANK engine and its mongo-TRUCK transmission...used something like 10 or 12 "matched" V-belts, which all had to be changed 'en-masse' when more than one or two failed.
...of course, the 115-120°F summer desert temperatures didn't "hel" service life either!
