Easier said than done. Yep, it really sucks. I'm in suburbia and the highest speed limit on our major roads is 40. With traffic it's usually impossible to go any faster. My other, larger cars get the same MPG as the Aveo because on them the TC locks up at 40 MPH. 45 is virtually unattainable.

Nothing else you do is going to compensate for that delayed transmission lockup which devastates the FE. I have a Scangauge and it helped me determine that it is the inevitable cause of the poor city FE in the Aveo.

In winter you would be better off with blocking the grilles for a faster warm up. I wrote a thread here on how I did it. I remove the top grille block when winter is over.
