yes, there few options I can think of . Since fans always work off a relay you could use the trigger wire on relay instead of fan power wire .
Another option, many vehicle use a simple radiator or water temp switch to trigger fans, this also could be used .

With all ways just need to make sure it doesn't interfere with fan operation .
