Then there should be a shoe tax for people who walk and bicycle tax for bicycles because sidewalks cost money too!
Thing is, the heavier the vehicle and the more energy it uses the more wear it puts on a road, maybe when 1% of all miles driven are electric then we'll have to figure out another way but as it is it's not even close and will not be close for years.
