This vehicle is listed on behalf of the Cornell 100+ MPG Team (
www.cornell100mpg.com) and is located in Ithaca, NY. The team competed in the Progressive Automotive X-Prize in 2010 (
www.piaxp.org).
It is a extensively modified, EV-conversion ready 1992 Geo Metro used by the team as a prototype to test many systems that were used in a separate, final hybrid vehicle. Less than 20,000 miles are on the engine (3 cyl). The vehicle was originally modified to run in parallel (parallel gas-electric) powered by lead-acid batteries. Note that the lead-acid batteries and electric motor are not included in this listing. The car is NOT in drivable condition due to the condition of the brakes. It must be towed in order to be moved. The engine and transmission are both installed and are both in working condition.
Per the photographs, the vehicle interior has been extensively modified to accommodate battery cells and the proper electronics. The rear bench has been removed and the space was used to store the batteries. The passenger seat has also been removed to accommodate electronics. The exterior is in relatively good condition with no rusting or large dents/scratches on the panels. The sponsor and team decals can be easily removed.
Considerable changes were made to the rear of the vehicle as it was redesigned to have a rear electric powertrain. Among these changes was the addition of a new rear end, from a 1994 Geo Tracker, installation of a modified fuel tank and assembly, installation of new exhaust system, engine tune-up, and fabrication and installation of rear powertrain battery box
Several main braking components were replaced from stock to incorporate hydraulic regenerative braking in the rear wheels. These included the rear drum brakes, hydraulic brake lines, parking brake and vacuum booster system. In addition to the hardware, a regenerative braking algorithm was also developed and installed in the electronics system. However, the brakes are not in functioning condition and the emergency brake/line is loose.
The vehicle was rated 32/40MPG before modification.
Please feel free to request more information, a complete description of the EV-conversion process and specifications of the vehicle, or to view the car in person.
