Well, it's probably more like $6 if you add in battery+holder+xtal (hmm, still need one of those) plus $1 of pcb real estate (fudge).
I'm a little irked at seeedstudio for that silly bit of "cost savings" on the ceramic resonator, lots of clones took that route.
