Yes the paper element filters can plug up quickly but it shows they are doing their job. If you do the research you'll find these oiled gauze aftermarket filters don't filter as well. Neither will the foam rubber ones.

Personally I would rather change my filter every 5K than have fine grit get through and wear down my rinds and cylinder walls. Compression is essential for diesel efficiency.

Consider relocating your intake.
