The cross pieces are the cross bars, and yes they are indeed off. They are sitting in my trunk, since I don't know where else to put them. The rails (parts that are screwed to the car) will probably stay, and get aero-modded.
I'll look into some smaller mirrors that are already on cars, and I'll talk to some officers about it too. But not having a mirror there could really help me out too in parking in the garage. I've almost clipped it off a few times, ad I came with an inch while maneuvering out of the garage with my dads truck behind me. It would be nice to have a thinner car. Perhaps a mirror that is outside, but goes out as far as the car's body flares out. It'd be a good judge of width.
