A few thoughts - on the highway, keep your speed down if you can (I cruise at 60, some will say 55), and use the hills. Unless you're on good flat ground, don't even bother with cruise control. Bleed some speed on the uphill, coast or gain speed on the way down. Also keep the tyres aired up and the mechanicals well-maintained.
